Flash
An external flash dramatically improves your photography in low light, indoors, and in situations where the built-in flash produces flat, harsh results. External flashguns are far more powerful than pop-up flashes, and crucially they can be angled — bouncing light off a ceiling or wall creates a much softer, more natural-looking illumination. They also recycle faster, work at greater distances, and offer manual power control for precise results. Most modern flashguns are compatible with Canon and Sony cameras via the hotshoe mount, with TTL metering that automatically calculates the correct exposure. For portrait, event, and wedding photographers, a good external flash is an essential piece of kit.
