Light Meter

A light meter measures the amount of light in a scene and calculates the correct camera settings — aperture, shutter speed, and ISO — to achieve a perfect exposure. While modern cameras have built-in metering systems, a dedicated handheld light meter offers greater accuracy, particularly for studio and flash photography where the camera's metering cannot measure flash output before the shutter fires. They're an essential tool for film photographers, studio portrait photographers, and cinematographers who need precise, consistent exposures across a shoot. Incident light metering — measuring the light falling on the subject rather than reflecting off it — produces more reliable results in challenging lighting conditions.
